"Beautifully written and compulsively readable。。。At its core, this book is about redemption, grace, and pain。"
--Jenna Bush Hager

"A novel so full-blooded, so humane, that the pages feel almost warm to the touch。 A clarifying, purifying chronicle of a promising young woman gone astray and the story of her comeback。 Grace Turner can do it。 You can do it, too。"
--A。J。 Finn

Grace Turner was one movie away from Hollywood's A-List。 So no one understood why, at the height of her career and on the eve of her first Golden Globe nomination, she disappeared。

Now, one year later, Grace is back in Los Angeles and ready to reclaim her life on her own terms。

When Grace is asked to present a lifetime achievement award to director Able Yorke--the man who controlled her every move for eight years--she knows there's only one way she'll be free of the secret that's already taken so much from her。

The Comeback is a moving and provocative story of justice--a true page-turner about a young woman finding the strength and power of her voice。

Didn’t finish。 Not my “cup of tea”!

I truly enjoyed her writing。 It just seemed a little too long and I wasn’t sure the ending was dramatic enough…。it should have been more satisfying from Grace’s perspective…at least that’s what I felt。 Could have been a 4…。

Read this 🔥🔥🔥

Yes, this is a #metoo movement book。 Seems like a fitting read with Cosby just being released on a technicality— the bad guys do keep winning。 But it takes a much deeper look at every one impacted, not just the victim。 For me that was eye opening because I truly never thought of the friends, families, the psychological toll not just the physical toll on the victim。

3。5I always put this book aside because of the heavy content。 I wanted to read it when I was ready to read about a destructive main character and finally I am。 The plot was fast paced, writing beautiful and the characters were real。 However, I felt like the main character was a bit too much for me。 I felt like her background and motivation were underwhelming。 I couldn’t understand why she was doing drugs then feeling sorry, then dressing up nice, then cracking a sarcastic joke。It seems like they 3。5I always put this book aside because of the heavy content。 I wanted to read it when I was ready to read about a destructive main character and finally I am。 The plot was fast paced, writing beautiful and the characters were real。 However, I felt like the main character was a bit too much for me。 I felt like her background and motivation were underwhelming。 I couldn’t understand why she was doing drugs then feeling sorry, then dressing up nice, then cracking a sarcastic joke。It seems like they needed therapy as soon as the incident happened and come to terms with it。 Not, do drugs then pretend they don’t know how amazing or how broken they are。 Due to this, I can’t give full stars despite the message being strong and important。 。。。more

This book was decent。 Really good insight into an example of inner dialogue of a victim of sexual and emotional abuse in Hollywood。 I was a little worried that I may be disappointed as this is an emotionally charged and highly publicized topic but the author did a great job。 I would recommend。

I've had to really consider why I didn't love this book and feel some magical power like everyone else。 I think it's because I didn't like anyone。 Anyone。 Not even a little。 I do like how the story was told and I was interested enough to keep reading。 I found it to be well written。 I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway。 I've had to really consider why I didn't love this book and feel some magical power like everyone else。 I think it's because I didn't like anyone。 Anyone。 Not even a little。 I do like how the story was told and I was interested enough to keep reading。 I found it to be well written。 I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway。 。。。more

Another great Read with Jenna pick。 Grace is a young Hollywood superstar that is coming off a rehab at her parents。 We quickly learn she was assaulted by her director Able。 Her marriage is done and her younger sister is headed for trouble。 Good easy read

Loved the character, loved how the story was told。

There was a lot of very important ideas and themes in this around sexual assault and the dominance of men in industries that construct women as something of prey。 It was hard to read knowing how, following the publication of this book, the MeToo Movement gained traction when so many brave men and women came about about their abuse or mistreatment in the entertainment industry and other male dominated settings。 This wasn’t a teaching book, nor was it all wrapped up in the end with a bow because t There was a lot of very important ideas and themes in this around sexual assault and the dominance of men in industries that construct women as something of prey。 It was hard to read knowing how, following the publication of this book, the MeToo Movement gained traction when so many brave men and women came about about their abuse or mistreatment in the entertainment industry and other male dominated settings。 This wasn’t a teaching book, nor was it all wrapped up in the end with a bow because that’s not how trauma and abuse works and so I’m really happy the author chose to go that route with Grace’s story。 At first, I thought this was a Daisy Jones/My Dark Vanessa cross over sort of vibe but it was way more than that and I’m glad it was。 。。。more

I started this book with low expectations and ended up being not only pleasantly surprised, but impressed。 Berman writes about a topic that is often spoken about in very exploitive ways- turning abuse, degradation, and the subsequent fallout into entertainment fodder。 She uses such a deft touch describing what has happened and instead focuses on a fully formed human being wrestling with hurt, fear, rage, and confusion。 I really pulled for Grace, and not just that she got revenge, but more than s I started this book with low expectations and ended up being not only pleasantly surprised, but impressed。 Berman writes about a topic that is often spoken about in very exploitive ways- turning abuse, degradation, and the subsequent fallout into entertainment fodder。 She uses such a deft touch describing what has happened and instead focuses on a fully formed human being wrestling with hurt, fear, rage, and confusion。 I really pulled for Grace, and not just that she got revenge, but more than she would discover who she was and could still be。 This is very thoughtfully and smartly written。 I think the cover, along with the subject matter, made me skeptical。 I’m glad I was wrong! 。。。more

I didn’t care you this book at all。 Very slow moving and didn’t keep my attention。 I wonder how much of this story is actually true for some stars。 Lots of hype but didn’t really deliver。

2。5 stars Listened on audiobook。 The synopsis felt like clickbait。 I think I spent the entire story waiting for the Lifetime Achievement Awards scene that the synopsis promised me, but in reality, it's barely a plot point for 99% of the story。 The first 80% of the story also meandered a bit too much for my liking, which led numerous subplots that all ended up contrived and unresolved。 It seemed like the author herself didn't really know where she wanted to take the book。 It's not a terrible book 2。5 stars Listened on audiobook。 The synopsis felt like clickbait。 I think I spent the entire story waiting for the Lifetime Achievement Awards scene that the synopsis promised me, but in reality, it's barely a plot point for 99% of the story。 The first 80% of the story also meandered a bit too much for my liking, which led numerous subplots that all ended up contrived and unresolved。 It seemed like the author herself didn't really know where she wanted to take the book。 It's not a terrible book by any means。 The writing itself is strong, and Brennan manages to address so many important topics like sexual assault, grooming, and drug abuse。 If you are interested in this book, I would recommend the book, "She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement", which is the nonfiction account by two of the reporters who took down Harvey Weinstein。 I think my expectations just differed too much from what I got for me to truly appreciate this read。 。。。more

Grace is child mega star who disappears at the pinnacle of her career。 A year later, she is somewhat sober, fifteen pounds heavier, and has forgotten how to bathe or dress。Nasty pictures of her are appearing in the rags。 Her publicist is at her wit's end。 Than she is asked to present a lifetime achievement award to Able Yorke。 He is the director who found her, molded her, and sexually abused her。Im sure this was meant to be a powerful novel in the era on the #MeToo but frankly I thought it misse Grace is child mega star who disappears at the pinnacle of her career。 A year later, she is somewhat sober, fifteen pounds heavier, and has forgotten how to bathe or dress。Nasty pictures of her are appearing in the rags。 Her publicist is at her wit's end。 Than she is asked to present a lifetime achievement award to Able Yorke。 He is the director who found her, molded her, and sexually abused her。Im sure this was meant to be a powerful novel in the era on the #MeToo but frankly I thought it missed its mark。 Every character is unlikeable。 I felt Grace was weak。 The abuse was a vague insinuation until the last 1/4 of the book when it exploded and than became its potential。 It was just too late for me。The side story of her younger sister, Esme, was heartbreaking。 I thought , in some ways, the way it was told was more powerful than Grace 。。。more

"The Comeback" is one of those books that packs a powerful punch so that one never forgets the storyline。 Containing interesting characters with a vivid description of the inside story behind the glitz of Hollywood, I felt like I had a secret view into an alien world。 Thanks to the goodreads giveaway program for awarding me an ARC of this incredible story and introducing me to another gifted author。 "The Comeback" is one of those books that packs a powerful punch so that one never forgets the storyline。 Containing interesting characters with a vivid description of the inside story behind the glitz of Hollywood, I felt like I had a secret view into an alien world。 Thanks to the goodreads giveaway program for awarding me an ARC of this incredible story and introducing me to another gifted author。 。。。more

(Audio) The story was unbalanced to me - the first 2/3rds not much happens。 Perhaps that was the point to see the difficultly in deciding what if anything to do and to see some of the unraveling but for much of the story it was rather boring and repetitive and then not much resolution or exploration of the impact on relationships。

Fantastic。 Heartbreaking。 Emotional。 Was not expecting this to be as good and as evocative as it was。 I was expecting more of a non-fiction book (I don't know why) but it flows so well。 Entirely fictional, although I feel like many women (or men too) would be able to see themselves as Grace。 The writing reminds me of Laurie Halse Anderson stylistically, as well as the fact that she holds nothing back when writing about trauma。 It's definitely a deep book, so be wary reading this, especially if y Fantastic。 Heartbreaking。 Emotional。 Was not expecting this to be as good and as evocative as it was。 I was expecting more of a non-fiction book (I don't know why) but it flows so well。 Entirely fictional, although I feel like many women (or men too) would be able to see themselves as Grace。 The writing reminds me of Laurie Halse Anderson stylistically, as well as the fact that she holds nothing back when writing about trauma。 It's definitely a deep book, so be wary reading this, especially if you are personally familiar with trauma of this sort。 。。。more
